My name is Derrick Pierce Smith, and I am a candidate for the position of division 17 judge in the Sedgwick County District Court. I believe that judges should embody fairness, independence, and impartiality. If I am elected, I will commit to upholding these principles throughout my tenure.

About Me
I was raised in the real estate industry and began my career as a real estate salesman during my college years. I graduated from Wichita State University’s Barton School Business in 2017 with a dual degree in Economics and Entrepreneurship, then went on attend Washburn University School of Law. After graduating from law school in 2020, I launched my own business, and I have been self employed ever since. My practice primarily focuses on real estate and criminal litigation, and as a trial attorney at heart, I spend much of my time in the courtroom doing trials, evidentiary hearings, and the like.
I am happily married to my wonderful wife, Emily, and we have a beautiful daughter, Ida, who is nearly years two old. My family means the world to me, and I take great pride in being a father.
Positions
As a candidate for judge, I must adhere to the judicial canons, which prevent me from expressing political opinions. However, supporting Derrick Pierce Smith means placing your trust in a dedicated individual who is committed to ensuring fair treatment for everyone while upholding traditional judicial, politically neutral values the founding fathers intended. The bench needs integrity, and should not be political. I intend to embody these positions.
